Ian Poulter Invitational
This week Ian Poulter welcomed 100 rising junior stars from across the UK and around the world, to play on the challenging Marquess Course at Woburn Golf Club for the 7th Ian Poulter Invitational.
On one of the hottest days of the year so far we saw players, all of which were under 18 years of age on the 1st January 2012 with a maximum 16 handicap to qualify, have rare one-on-one time with Ian as he toured the course to give hands-on professional guidance to each player, as well as top tips and practical advice during the afternoon’s ‘IJP Clinic’.
Ian, who has been the International Touring Pro at Woburn for over nine years, sees the event as a chance to encourage the next generation of golfers and is passionate about giving them the opportunity to play on a championship course under championship conditions.
Ian states, “It’s always such a special day to be able to get some of the best junior golfing talent together and give them an opportunity I never had. I love being out on the course with the kids, being able to chat with them and seeing their genuine enthusiasm for the game. It’s a great experience for the juniors, a really refreshing day for me and one I look forward to every year.”
Each player had their photograph taken with Ian and then signed as a personal memento of their day, as well as receiving a fabulous goody bag, including an item from the IJP Design clothing range, Ian Poulter Invitational accessories specially created for the day by PRGolf and a pair of Oakley sunglasses.
Sophie Madden from West Essex Golf Club won the 1st prize with a top Gross score of 74. Jousha Pearson from John O’Gaunt had the best Nett score of Gross 82/Nett 72, who both won a set of Cobra irons.
There were also prizes for the longest drive, won by Gabriella Cowley from West Essex Golf Club. Nearest to pin went to Aiden Healey from Oulton Hall Golf Club.
Ian also selected the best dressed and the best hair for the day which went to James Greatbanks and Oliver Cribb respectively.
Ian played a shot to beat in Woburn Golf Club’s brand new Performance Centre, which opened 17th April and boasts the latest GC2 launch monitor and simulator technology providing custom fitting, ball fitting, nearest the pin/longest drive challenges, practice option and the chance to play one of 37 top class golf courses in simulator mode and KC golf show provided a trick shot show.
This year the charity associated with the event is Dreamflight. Ian is a huge supporter of Dreamflight whose purpose is to send seriously ill children on the holiday of a lifetime. http://www.dreamflight.org
